2022 Word for the Year – Rest

Word for the year 2022 Rest

2022 Word for the Year

A New Beginning

New beginnings…fresh starts. A New Year and a clean slate. I don’t know about you, but I am always grateful for an opportunity to start fresh once again. No matter how hard I may try, I always feel lacking for what I should have accomplished. Aren’t you thankful that God’s mercies are new EVERY morning?!!! I know I sure am!

I find it helpful several times throughout the year to hit the reset button. Sometimes we just need a start over with new goals or a reigniting of the old ones. We had a couple of very busy months at the end of the summer. After this busy time, I needed a time of rest. However, this led to a period of just maintaining the status quo, so to speak. In October, I felt the need to reset and establish some new goals. Due to a shift in our toddler’s schedule, we needed to create some new routines.

Sometimes we have the idea we need to wait until the beginning of a new year to set new goals. However, God gives us a fresh start every day. It is never the wrong time to establish a new goal. We need to take periodic inventory throughout the year to see if we are just floating along or if we are really accomplishing God’s best for our daily lives.

A New Word – Rest

No, the goal is to take more naps this year. Although, with a teething toddler who hasn’t been sleeping well, more naps sure sound nice!

This year’s word is more about finding internal rest or peace. There is so much turmoil in the world right now, sometimes it seems hard to find that internal rest. The word “rest” can be defined as a state of reconciliation to God; a place of quiet; to be still, or satisfied; to abide, to remain with.

When everything is falling apart around me, I can find rest in the stillness of the presence of God. Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30).

I am so thankful for the rest that I can find in the everlasting arms of God! (Deut. 33:26-28)

Verses about Rest

Psalm 16:9, “Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.”

Psalm 37:7, “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.”

Isaiah 14:3, “And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from they sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,”

Praying no matter what the Lord brings you this year, that you experience the inner peace only He can give!
