Prioritizing God’s Word in Your Daily Life
Do you struggle with prioritizing God’s Word in your daily life?
Some days finding time to spend with the Lord can be a struggle, especially as a mom with little ones. There are so many distractions that can keep us from God’s Word and fellowship with Him. The busyness of life, phone calls, social media, relationships, health issues, endless dishes and laundry, children and husbands needing to be fed, and countless other tasks are constantly vying for our undying attention.
However, if we want to have a successful Christian walk, we must make God’s Word a priority in our lives.
Joshua 1:8, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
A successful Christian life is characterized by one who is constantly memorizing and meditating on the truths of God’s Word. When our hearts and minds are focused on biblical truth, we will be walking in the Spirit and not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh.

Today I would like to share with you Four Tips for Prioritizing God’s Word in your daily life:
Choose to Make it a Priority
It is so easy to make excuses when it comes to reading, memorizing, and meditating upon Scripture. You may have little ones who drain every ounce of energy you have; or perhaps, it’s work or even ministry which keeps you busy. We must make a daily choice to make God’s Word top priority in our lives.
I believe this may look different at each season of life. But God’s blessings will be upon our lives as we make this daily choice.
What legacy do you want to leave your children? Is it one of an immaculate house? Or that you chauffeured them around to every sports game and activity?
Will they remember a mother making God’s Word her first priority?
Let your children see you reading God’s Word
I remember almost every morning when I would get up and walk downstairs my mom would be sitting on the living room couch praying and reading her Bible. What better legacy is there to leave your children? You may be in a season where rising before your children isn’t a possibility. But there is always a way to work this into your daily schedule or routine.
Having an infant and younger children in the home at times when we were fostering has been quite a challenge. This is not a good excuse however difficult it may become. For our preschool aged children we incorporated quiet times or blanket times while I have had my personal Bible time. This of course takes time and training to teach them to stay and do something quiet. However, the rewards are well worth the effort. Now, with an infant I do my quiet time when he takes his first nap of the day.
It is a tremendous help when you are able to get your little ones on a basic schedule or routine. It won’t look perfect, but incorporating daily rhythms will help tame the chaos and allow for times of being still and embracing the presence of God. Our little ones are looking up to us and the best way for them to learn to walk with God is to see it lived out in our own lives.
Focus on God’s Word Throughout the Day
God’s Word shouldn’t be something we just spend a few minutes a day in. Abiding in Christ means living continually in His presence. Several ways to do this are:
Pick a verse to memorize and meditate on throughout the day
Listen to God’s Word being read on your Bible app. I use Tecarta Bible app to listen to Scripture. This is helpful during nursing when it is sometimes hard to hold a Bible in my hands.
Listen to Christ-honoring music. Download the free version of Spotify. You can find my playlist here.
The more in-tune we are to God’s Word as we go about our days, the more we will be walking in the spirit and not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. As wives and mothers it is easy to let the overwhelm and frustrations overflow and spill out in an often un-Christlike manner. It is so vital to keep our hearts and minds connected to the presence of our Heavenly Father through the power of His Word.
