9 Things to Praise God for in Every Trial

The Bible says we are to give thanks in all things. But how much do we struggle with this when going through difficult times? I know I do. Sometimes it is hard to find the blessings amidst a crisis. However, here are 9 unchanging truths we can praise God for no matter the trial in which we find ourselves…

God’s Comfort

II Corinthians 1:3-6, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.”

When a child is hurting, there is no place they find better comfort than in the arms of one of their parents. Just as a child runs to mom or dad for consolation in the same way we can run to the arms of God and find a comfort that surpasses anything else. Some seek comfort through others means but looking elsewhere will only bring more disillusionment and discouragement.

God’s Working

Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

I Corinthians 2:9, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Isn’t a beautiful thing how God and take every mistake, every difficulty and put them together into a beautiful picture of His redemption and grace? He takes every trial and makes it beautiful in His own time and in His own way. Even when we can’t see it, He is working out His perfect plan in our lives.

God’s Peace

Isaiah 26:3, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Colossians 3:15, “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

One area that can quickly spin out of control during times of testing is our thought life. What are you allowing your mind to ponder? Is it thoughts of fear or discontentment? Thoughts of anger and bitterness? There are so many negative emotions that can permeate every crevice of our thoughts.

We experience peace when our minds are centered around Christ and His Word. If you are struggling with your thoughts, write out some verses to memorize and meditate upon. When our thoughts are transformed, we will experience the overwhelming effects of God’s peace.

God’s Presence

Isaiah 43:2, When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

No matter what trial we walk through, God is right there beside us holding our hand. Many times, during storms, we cannot see Him or feel His presence. However, it is at moments like these we must trust the promises and unfailing truth of His Word. God said it; therefore, I CAN believe it!

God’s Deliverance

II Corinthians 1:10, “Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;”

One thing we can always be rest assured of is that God will bring us through whatever difficulties we face. Some trials may not end this side of heaven, but all sorrow will fade away when we are ushered into His presence. One day He WILL deliver us!

God’s Love

Romans 8:35-39, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Some of the hardest trials we face in life is dealing with the hurt of being unloved by others. For some, this may even be abuse coming from those who were supposed to love, nurture, and care for them. When we have faced this level of rejection, it may be difficult to accept the unfailing love of God. But He promises that there is absolutely NOTHING that can ever separate us from His love. Not even the devil himself is powerful enough to come between us and the love of God!

Frederick Lehman wrote these powerful words about the Love of God:

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;

God’s Power

Psalm 59:16, “But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.”

I think sometimes we forget that we serve the same God who created the World, parted the Red Sea, brought down the walls of Jericho, healed the blind, raised the dead, defeated Satan on the Cross, and resurrected Christ. We serve an omnipotent (all-powerful) God. He is our protector. He is our defender. We know these stories, but do we really believe in the power of the ONE who made them possible?

God’s Sufficiency

II Corinthians 3:5, “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;”

God is sufficient. He is enough. So many people look for relief in all the wrong places. Alcohol will never be sufficient. Drugs are not sufficient. Pornography and sex addiction are not sufficient. These things always cry for just a little more. Even your friends or spouse are not sufficient. Looking for sufficiency outside of God only leads to more confusion and despair. Only God is capable of meeting our deepest desires and needs.

God’s Renewing

II Corinthians 4:16, “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.”

Isaiah 40:29-31, “He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

God’s renewal is a daily process. He gives us grace to meet the trials of the day. So often we become overwhelmed when we are trying to solve tomorrow’s problems with today’s grace. However, if we want to experience daily renewal we must be abiding in His presence so that we can receive the life-giving sap of the VINE. We must seek daily strength from His Word and fellowship with Him.
